Fibre Tech Fiberglass Resurfacing
If you are a homeowner in the midst of a home improvement project, you know that your yard is the first thing seen and it can change the whole aesthetic of the property.
Don’t forget to give it the care it needs.
Many spend a decent amount of time in their backyard and design it to be a place for entertainment.
This may cause you to purchase a house with a swimming pool or install one after the fact (especially in Florida).
Whether it is new or old, you should research what surface is a best fit for your needs and bank account. After, you should know what you are getting into, aka the process you have chosen that will bring beauty to your swimming pool.
For those who have decided to join the Fibre Tech family and have a Fibre Tech fiberglass surface applied to their existing swimming pool structure, I will be reviewing exactly what to expect during the renovation, the steps of our 6 step installation process, and what to expect following the application of our product.
Our Process
The most common places you will hear of fiberglass is on a boat or a car. In those situations, the process involves spraying on the materials. Unlike other fiberglass applications, our process is 100% hand-rolled.
Step 1
Our technicians start by grinding down the current surface and removing any discolorations, blisters, and bubbles until the surface is smooth and free of any contaminants.
They fill in any areas that need to be filled on the surface to create a seamless smooth working surface.
Step 2
The Fibre Tech manufactured Fiber Lock Kote is applied.
Step 3
Our first coat of Fibre Tech resin is rolled out onto the surface.
Step 4
Once the first coat of resin is applied, we lay down an even layer of Owens Corning Fiberglass mat across the entire surface.
Step 5
Another layer of resin is applied on top of the Fiberglass mat and the surface is then gently sanded for the last time.
Step 6
We finish by coating the entire surface with a final layer of Fibre Tech Resin which creates a sheen and smooth final product.
What to Expect During the Process
The first thing consistently asked is, “How long will this pool resurfacing process take?”
The process takes 7 business days.
Exceptions for this one-week deadline include unforeseen circumstances, extra prep work that is needed to complete the pool properly, weather conditions, or unpaid balances along with other contractual problems.
Once we are ready to start your pool, our technicians will arrive at the property and dig a test hole, which is simply a hole close to the pool (usually in the yard). This test hole determines the ground water levels.
This step is particularly important as it will determine the need for well-points. This is done to drain any water in the ground under your pool that would be applying pressure as we empty water from inside the pool. If this is not done when necessary, the pool has a chance of “popping” out of the ground or walls caving in.
If a well-point is added to your pool, it will run for an extended period of time and it does create noise, but under no circumstances should anyone other than our Fibre Tech technician ever touch the equipment or turn off the well-point generator.
This will cause the same disastrous effect explained previously. Well-pointing is an additional cost, but it will NOT be added to the total cost until determined necessary by your technician.
When a Fibre Tech technician has determined that the ground water is at a safe level, the pool will be emptied, which could take up to a full day. After it is emptied, the surface must dry before our 6-step fiberglass resurfacing process can begin.
Our Job is Complete
Once finished, the pool will be filled with water by use of a garden hose or other property water source. Although our work is completed, your job is not. The pool is now your responsibility to keep healthy, but don’t worry, we will not leave you hanging.
Your technician will review information provided in the Use & Care Guide that will be included in your warranty packet. Among this information will be your chemical maintenance responsibilities. If you use a third party to maintain your pool, you should share this information and inform them it is Fibre Tech Fiberglass Resurfacing.
