When is it time to resurface vs. buying a brand-new pool?

September 24, 2020

How far is too far gone?

Our team regularly gets asked if the pools we inspect are salvageable or too far gone for repair.

We can save most pools, but the real questions to ask yourself are:

How much do you want changed?

How much are you willing to spend?

And is it worth the cost?

Fibre Tech resurfaces swimming pools of all makes including Fiberglass, Concrete, Marcite, and Vinyl Liner. The material of your pool and its structure ‘pre-remodel’ can make a difference in how much work, time, and money will need to be allocated towards its makeover.

How much do you want changed?

If you are looking to improve the life of your existing surface, change some aesthetics like tile and pavers, or change out skimmers, handrails, pumps, etc., then resurfacing would be the way to go.

If you are adamant on changing the structure, size, or shape of your pool, then a new pool may be the way to achieve your goal.

How much are you willing to spend?

Cost is a major contributor to the final decision.

How much are you willing to invest?

The average range for the cost of a one-piece fiberglass pool is between $23,400 for a 10×20, to $59,900 for a 16×32 pool, and can shoot up to $93,600 depending on size, shape, and customization.

The approximate range of fiberglass resurfacing for the same size pools could cost anywhere from $5,400 for a 10×20, to $9,900 for a 16×32 swimming pool.

Is Your Project Worth the Cost?

As you see, the price between purchasing a completely new Fiberglass Pool versus Fiberglass Resurfacing of an existing pool is quite different. Now that you know the costs, it’s time to determine how much is worth investing into your swimming pool project.

How often do you use your pool? Is it a focal point at your home? Do you have kids? How much is your property worth? Will the addition greatly change the property value? Do you have the financing for the project? These are common questions to ask yourself. If you are still unsure, it never hurts to get the opinion of a professional.
